Long Live the Corgis!

In searching for photos of Queen Elizabeth and her Corgis, I came across a wonderful video that provides a brief history of the Queen's fascination with Corgis. It features Diana King, chairwoman of the Welsh Corgi League, who reveals that the Queen is the only corgi breeder who can trace her breeding back to the foundation bitch.

The Queen received her first pooch, Susan, on her 18th birthday and bred continuously until 2009, for fear that her new dogs would "outlive" her.

Her Majesty currently owns three Welsh Pembrokes, Monty, Willow and Holly and during her jubilee, corgis have spiked in popularity.

I was interested to see that Mrs. King's Pembroke Corgis did not have their tails docked, as is the case with my Pembroke Corgi, Sophie. I'm told that many American breeders are no longer docking tails, which I'm very happy about, as Sophie's tail is a huge part of her personality. Which reminds me: I haven't completed Sophie's "Watch Me Grow" panel. I'd better get busy with that!

Enjoy the video:
